Symposium 1

Art history has changed a lot over the years.  There are many new careers in the field of art history.  Appraisals, Curating, and Exhibition Design are just a few of the exciting career opportunities available with an art history degree.  Creative writing has many new aspects about it.  Also that the traditional form of the English language is always changing and there is a fear among some that we may lose our grasp on what we consider proper language.

The two styles

Wanted to show the contrast between the modern building and the old one and how they come together.

Glare

I enjoy the figures between the two buildings.  It's almost like they are stuck in time.

People

I just love the mystery in the burnt out background.
Loved how the water was so still.  Almost like a mirror.

New Context

The first picture I took of her was not in the context I wanted it to be.  I hope to show a more warm side to this now.

Head On

Head-on perspective of the night in shining armor.

New Angle

New angle of the statue in the asia exhibit.  Though I would try to capture the sculpture and the background. They go together really well.

Marble Column

Comparison to the limestone column outside the building.  Where everything outside has a texture,  everything in the museum is so smooth.

New Edit

Taylor Swank Bio

Taylor Swank has many interesting aspects about her.  She's 23 and she's a native of Kansas City.  Taylor is really excited and happy about being able to attend the Kansas City Art Institute.  She first gave community college a try, but it really didn't work for her.  She's happy to be around these beautiful surroundings, even though she doesn't live on campus.  She likes her job working at a game store.  Even though she doesn't like games in particular, she gets to meet a lot of interesting people where she works.

She has numerous interests that she finds interest in.  One of the things Taylor enjoys doing is riding her bike.  It gives her a sence of freedom to travel where cars cannot.  You could almost say she feels very zen.  Taylor loves movies because it's a glamorous escape from reality.  Of all the mediums in art, she enjoys painting the most.  Taylor also likes to cut up rubber and make stamps.  All of these things give her enjoyment in some way or another.

Her family is also important to her as well.  She currently lives off campus with her boyfriend and roommate.  Their relationship could be best described as a "brother sister" relationship.  She doesn't have any set religious beliefs, but she did grow up with a lot of astrology in the household.  Taylor has enjoyed art since she was in gradeschool.  Art really resonated with her in gradeschool.  She has three siblings, two sisters and one brother, all of them ranging from ages 8 to 13.  Her brother has a real intrest in art and hopes to go to KCAI like her some day.
